So, why does a good Christian girl like Trainspotting? It is funny, visually amazing, and has some of the best acting you're ever likely to see. That said, it is also really disgusting in parts, and is probably going to just disturb most people over a certain age. (I'm not sure what that age is...)

Trainspotting is the story of a group of Scottish heroin addicts and other assorted losers who are wasting their lives and don't really care. They make it abundantly clear that they have chosen to be drug addicts and have chosen to not be valuable members of society. One member of this group, Mark Renton, keeps trying to quit heroin and keeps edging towards having a real life, but is stopped by his friends. To get out of their influence, he moves to London and gets a real job and settles in quite nicely. Until two of his friends, Sick Boy and Begbie, crash at his place and eventually drive him back to Edinburgh.

Along with the great storytelling and acting, this film has a soundtrack I have been listening to over and over, despite the fact that I usually hate techno. It is worth the price of a used copy just for "Perfect Day" by Lou Reed and "Lust For Life" and "Nightclubbing" by Iggy Pop.

Caveat: if you are a recovering heroin addict or drug addict of any kind, think carefully before watching this movie. There are a few scenes that can seriously trigger cravings. It's a film I certainly don't recommend to everyone, as much as I love it.
