Okay, so I just got home from watching Serenity. I went on opening day to the least popular theater in town, and it was a decent crowd of nerds out to see the latest offering from Joss Whedon. (I can't possibly be making fun of nerds, since I was pretty much wetting myself with excitement over seeing Serenity. I am a nerd.)

In case you are not familiar, Serenity is the movie based on the absolutely fantastic television series Firefly, from Joss Whedon, the creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. It was on FOX for 11 episodes before the idiots there decided to kill it. But it would not die. An army of browncoats rose up to keep the signal going.

But I digress. The issue at hand is the movie. After telling all of you to go and see it, was it worth the hype? Yes. A thousand times, yes.

The story is very much a continuation of the show. The crew of the ship Serenity are transporting a fugitive names River Tam and her brother Simon, who rescued her from a government facility. But in reaching beyond the series in the movie we learn more about River and about why the Alliance wants her so bad.

I feel like I can't tell you too much about it because I don't want to give away any spoilers. And there are plenty I could give.

There are space battles and fights and trickery and deceit and love and everything that can make a movie great. I laughed, I cried, I gasped, I cheered. Serenity is everything that a sci-fi movie should be. It is Joss Whedon's greatest work yet.

If you haven't seen it yet, you need to. When the DVD is out, don't bother renting it. Go straight to buying it. You'll want to see it a few times to catch every detail.

In short, I loved this movie. It draws you in and makes you wish you spoke Chinese.
