Ancient circus tents.

Circushenge

Here’s a conversation I had with my husband while he was asking me trivia questions last night. (Approximated – I didn’t take notes at the time.)

HUSBAND: Where is the largest stone circle in the UK?
GIRLALIVE: I don’t know.
H: Avebury. It’s so big the whole town is inside the circle.
GA: But it might not be so big if the town is all midgets.
H: They’re not midgets.
GA: That would explain the stone circles. They were ancient circus tents.
H: They were not circus tents.
GA: Then how do you explain the midgets?
H: There are no midgets in Avebury!
GA: So you know where all the midgets in the world are? You have a database?
H: No. It’s just that Avebury is not all midgets.
GA: Then why is the whole town inside a giant ancient bigtop?
(HUSBAND glares.)
GA: Doo doo doodle oodle oo doo doo doo. (circus music)
(Husband gives up and asks next trivia question.)

Husband is a great straight man, but not much of an audience.

  1. Wow. Let it be known that I laughed myself silly over this and sang the circus music along with you at the end. So funny. And yeah, Matt doesn’t always get my hilariousness either. He just says, “Well, at least YOU think you are funny, Sweetie.” That’s right I do!

  2. When I was in Great Britain, I went on a tour of Avebury. It’s been a while, but I don’t recall seeing any of the townsfolk, so I can’t say for sure that they weren’t all so small I couldn’t even see them. And the standing stones are only about the height of a good-sized midget, just perfect for hiding behind…

And to my lovely wife: You’re often hilarious. Not as funny as me, of course, but hilarious nonetheless :)

  4. “Husband is a great straight man, but not much of an audience.”

Same here. But I love him anyway.

  5. “Now that thar is funny I don’t care what you say” to quote Larry the cable guy. It could go either way with husband response. Sometimes he joins in and sometimes I get the look of ’see what I have to put up with’. He just might have joined in on this one.
