Monday again

I haven’t posted much here lately. Not much to say I guess. I haven’t posted since my birthday. My birthday was depressing. My husband did his best to make it good, but there’s just no getting around the fact that I’ve lived here for over two years and I still don’t have any friends. This is my third birthday alone here. When I moved to Seattle, knowing no one there, I had a birthday party with half a dozen friends my first year there. People in Seattle were just easier to meet and get along with. People here are all friends with people they’ve known since school. I didn’t go to school here, so I don’t matter.

My rodents are all completely mental. The hamster Binky keeps trying to hibernate, so I’ve been picking him up and annoying him to keep him away. Homer is putting on weight, but has taken to standing on top of the house and putting his paws in the hay rack to eat. Spike keeps eating the fur on his chest. We don’t know why. Elvis is developing some kind of complex because Fudge won’t stop humping him. You don’t even want to know what my husband had to wash out of their fur last week.

And that’s the only news because my only friends are mentally disturbed rodents.

  1. I just read your comment and I used to live in Edinburgh. I am from Canada and found a really nice group at Charlotte Chapel Baptist (at Charlotte Square) called the International Fellowship. They meet on Fridays and are very friendly to any who come. They have many Asians that come but also some from the U.S. etc. Well it is just a suggestion. They are really great people.

Finding friends is such a tricky thing to do, and I can’t imagine how much harder it is when you already feel like an outsider (due to cultural differences and being a newcomer in people’s social circles). If it weren’t for school and church groups, I would have had a very hard time finding anyone here in Urbana. And depending on the job, it can be really hard to find people you connect with, or who think like you do.

    Regarding mental rodents, there are days when I wish we still had some of those of our own. But then I think about how neglected our poor Hooch has been these past 5 months or so, and I realize that maybe those rodents are happier in a home like yours :) Such fun!

  3. hi, just wanted to let you know that someone was out here and cares what you write :)

    I think its just where you are living hun. Scottish people are weird!

    Im from the Isle of Man and I also find it hard to make new friends. Especially since Im not single any more – its easier if you are one of those people who goes to every work night out etc.

    I dont have any friends that I knew from school…and its very like that over here because its so small – most people seem to have a massive bunch of mates that they have known forever. But I changed schools at 7 and lost all my old friends and was too old to make new “best friend forever” type friends.

    My best mate lives miles away and has 3 kids so we never really get to see each other properly either.

    Ah well, just wanted to give you a shout out :)
