I've had enough. I'm done.

With my shiny new job and nice coworkers I was finally starting to think that maybe the people of Scotland aren't all drunken amoral idiots.  I was wrong.

Last night someone broke into my house and stole my laptop.  Out of all the stuff in our living room, all they took was my laptop and my favorite mouse.  The PS2 is worth more than my 4-year-old computer.  But they didn't take the PS2.  Didn't take my husband's computer or either of the digital cameras.  You see, we wouldn't care if they took cameras or the game console.  But my computer, as worthless as it is on the resale market, was the preferred thing to take because it leaves me without most of my important stuff.

I lost the address books for my family and friends, other than the few addresses I stored in Yahoo.  I lost most of the pictures of my guinea pigs, including the pictures of Homer and Binky, who are dead, and therefore unable to pose for anymore pictures.

I think I still have a cd of wedding photos here somewhere.  Most of my music is gone.  I have a few favorites stored on a flash drive, but I'll have to dig through boxes to find cd's to replace the rest.

I don't know how much longer I can stand to live in this amoral hellhole of a country.  I lived in the US for 29 years, and the only thing I ever had stolen was a lunch from my locker in 11th grade.  I'm here less than three years and someone steals my computer.  I hate this fucking country full of drunken theiving bastards.

I had my suitcase stolen while I was traveling one time (in the US). I didn't lose any of my important data (note to self: back everything up tonight), but I did lose all the clothes that I had with me.
I have lived in Scotland in that very house for most of my life and we've never been broken into before. Or had anything stolen. Since I have moved to this house, less than a year ago, in England, we've had our gates and our sulo bins stolen twice and people we dont know are always trying to get into our house. Scotland is not a hellhole and its not full of drunken thieving bastards, Im sorry you had your laptop stolen but dont take your frustrations out on the Scots. People who live in glass houses shouldn't leave their windows open!
You, like your brother, have lived here your whole life, so you don't even have the tiniest shred of outsider perspective. You are used to people being rude and mean and you think it's normal. In this country, drunkenness is a hobby. In my country, it's a character flaw. Let's go over my experience in Scotland so far. I've had children on the bus mock me and pick on me with no provocation. I've had co-workers who sold me out and stabbed me in the back, while working under managers who were straight out abusive. Even at my new job, some of my co-workers steal from the charity box for blind kids. Now one of my neighbors stole my computer. Outside of your family and a few peripheral friends, I have not encountered anyone in this country who has not been a complete asshole. And since you seem to share the British ability to be personally offended by anything and everything, I'm starting to rethink the family part.
Alana this is Neils dad I am sorry your computor was stolen but for the last 30 years there has not been any problems to our house in that time. There is a certain element in Scotland that have had problems with stealing, murder, and robbery's.In the world today there have changes not only with people's attitude to life but the crime rates have gone up and up.There have been more murders committed, more drug dealers, and a lot of people have lost their own respect for one or another.I do not want you to fall into the same trap yes there are idiots, nutters, ask neil who are the nutters. When I grew up the changes were happening .I believe some peoples attitude have changed over the last 30 years not for the better.I do not know if thats what it is like in the united states of america you would have to tell me.Whats missing today arrogance.no respect.Sorry to send you an email but you make your life the best way you can as thats what lifes about.I still do not trust some people but lifes too short to worry about it.andy.
